That is a real shame! I am sure there are many blind people who don't have access to the internet because they can't afford a connection to an ISP but have no problem using telnet to access a BBS. Even a nominal $10 a month charge by an ISP to a dialup user would be too much for those blind people whose sole income is a monthly SSI check. Willie was talking about shutting his node down just before I became a Fidonet absentee. He was a terrific guy who did great service to the blind community (in my opinion as a sighted person participating in his echo). To get back on topic (dogs) I wish you an easy time of training your Rottie. Also, do you remember Laura from Texas who participated in Willie's echo (and probably the others I didn't read back then)? She lives about 10 miles from me and although we haven't had an in person visit the past couple of years and lost touch for a while we have been chatting on the phone the past couple of months. Her old seeing eye dog died last year and she has a new one that I hope to meet in a few weeks. And recently Laura got her ham operator license and is now part of a group in her area that activates whenever there is a need for rescue people to assist (after flooding, hurricane, etc.). Right now she can only operate locally but when she gets a different kind of equipment she will be able to get out over the air internationally. --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: Collin County Station (1:124/6308) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 53/558 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 SEEN-BY: 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 200 2905/0 @PATH: 124/6308 5025 106/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
