        There was a thread about this on the RAILROAD list on
the Internet a few weeks ago, and the longest was on one of the
isolated iron ore railroads in Australia--something like five
miles, but just done as a one time deal.
        There was also information as to what the longest ever
to move in regular service in North America was, and as I recall
it was a little over two miles.
        Unfortunately, I didn't archive the exchange.
