Hi All. We had a big electrical storm last night (christmas eve) and it busted some of my stuff. We All say I'll never happen to me... well it happened to my serial port and my TV, and my phone. The TV no longer responds to the control panel, (the remote still works, but the tuner has lost it's settings and that needs to be done on the control panel) aux-in works so atleast I can still use it on the VCR's tuner is that likely to be expensive? I'll give it a week to "burn in" in case something else in there is going to croak. the serial port(s) (there was null modem cable between 2 computers) just don't work... (software detects them, just no action) I might try replacing the 1488/1489 chips and see if that helps. (the chips (goldstar) are are labeled GD75188A/GD75189A is that the same thing? - I've got heaps of 1488/1489 from an old terminal concentrator) OTOH I can probably find another serial card fairly easily... at the other end it hit a serial port on the motherboard, dunno if that one has 1488/1489 type chips or if it's beyond hope, the other serial port is not not in use so I can use that. The phone has no earpiece sound but the microphone still works, I think I'll junk it. a few minutes after I plugged the computer back in thismorning there was a "pop", and it shut down, and let some smoke out (near the ram/keyboard), I played with the power plugs and it's going again, dunno what died - (It smelled like a diode I think) everything seems to work - (except the serial port - but the smoke was't from it) hmm, the phone was sitting on top of the computer... maybe that's the path the lightning took. -=> Bye <=- ---* Origin: I'm pink, therefore I'm SPAM.
