Ovr hundreds of generations. Think of it this way. It is natural to become
lactose intolerant as one ages. Eurpeans though, with a wider exposure over
thousands of years, genetically selected for people able to handle it at
older ages. Those who could, could take advantage of a food source others
could not so tended to survive to have more kids.
It's also true that native Americans and Native Australians have a lower
tolerance for a high sugar diet and tend to diabetes. You dont fix that by
feeding them more sugar. Eating too much due to western diet is the cause,
not the solution.

They handle it fine up through the toddler age then slowly shift to no longer
handling it as well.
