Hi, Daniel, and welcome to Parrots. I'm the moderator. Before I go any
further, I'd like to make a request. Could you please turn off your
"caps lock" key? Writing in all caps is equivalent to yelling in bbs
etiquette, and it's also kinda hard on the eyes. Thanks!
Now, back to birds!
>MY PAIR OF NANDAYS HAVE HAD 2 CLUTCHES, ONE OF 4, AND NOW THREE MORE
>CHICKS. AND MY PAIR OF SUNS HAD TWO CHICKS. I'M PRESENTLY HAND FEDDING
>THEM EXACT.
Another conure person! That's great! I've had some success with
using Exact for my conures. I've also used Pretty Bird. Both formulas
have given good weight gains and good feathering.
>LAST WEEK I BOUGHT WITH THE HELP OF A FRIEND A PAIR OF AFRICAN GREY
>CONGOS. THEY'RE SURELY ADULS, AND THE BARELY LEAVE THE NEST.
This could be because they're shy and uncertain about their new
environment. Were they domestically raised, or are they wild-caughts?
>I'M FEDDING THEM VITA SEED FROM SUNSHINE BIRD SUPPLY AND EVERY TWO TO
>THREE DAYS I SPRINKLE A BIT OF NEKTON CALCIUM POWDER.
Do you give them fresh foods as well? Things like rice and beans,
chopped veggies and fruits, pasta, cooked meats, yogurt; all these are
very good for birds. Feeding them *just* seed isn't a fully nutritious
diet; they require a wider variety of foods. The calcium is a good idea
though; many greys tend to have low calcium levels.
>I HAVE A WHITE SHEET OVER THEIR CAGE SINCE I NOTICED THAT THEY'RE VERY
>SHY.
The sheet DOES come off during the day, right? Just checking--I've heard
of people keeping new birds constantly covered before. This doesn't
allow the birds to acclimate, as they can't see what's around them.
>IF ANYONE HAS ANY ADVIVE OF THINGS THAT I SHOULD OR SHOULN'T DO PLEASE
>FEEL FREE TO LET ME KNOW. I'VE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT BIRDS BUT I KNOW
>THERE'S A LOT MORE THAT TAKES BOTH TIME, AND EXPERIENCE TO LEARN.
I'm sure the other "grey people" out here will jump in and comment too.
Since I don't have greys, I can only offer general suggestions. I'm sure
the grey breeders will have lots to say! I like your attitude; there
are people who never realize that they won't ever know everything. Those
are the ones whose birds will suffer in the long run.
>THANKS FOR READING THIS FAR, AND AGAIN, I VERY MUCH ENJOY THIS ECHO.
Thanks, I'm glad to hear that! Welcome aboard!
