They do that here in the DC area sometimes, too, but usually it's for
basketball, often college from what I remember.  Fortunately, where I
am I can plug in the old antenna, switch to air, and pick up UPN out
of Baltimore so I don't miss out.  However, look for Smackdown to be
rescheduled on the weekend.  When I'm back at my parents' house on
breaka and Smackdown is pre-empted there, it usually airs on Saturday
night.  Check your local schedule -- it will probably be in there
somewhere.  They shouldn't have dropped it this week, just moved it.
