subject: Greed in the Vet profession

Email from my sister re her 11 year old Tibetian Spaniel. He's been
sick off and on for years in spite of a special diet that avoids food
allergies... She and family had gone out of town to a wedding... Yogi
had been sick off and on that previous week. The sitter is a private
home setting, so they felt he would be okay. But he wasn't. And we all
know he's not going to get better. No matter what. His condition
has been going on far toooo long. :( These vets? Spell Greed.

[...] I immediately picked up Yogi [from the dog siters] and took
him to the emergency clinic where he's in critical condition.
He has internal bleeding that has filled his lungs and one eye.
$3,000 later we still don't know what's happening....I think he's
dying. But as long as he's at the vet's where they are talking
blood transfusions and possible surgery, they could string this
out for at least another several thousand. I'll hear what they
say tomorrow and then decide whether to have him put to sleep.
Of course they don't like that course of action. It seems cold
but we can't spend $10,000 to try to make him better. [end quotes]

.............................

My comment:

Life is supposed to be priceless.... so we don't want to, naturally
talk about the money when it comes to cost of care- but today it seems
the medical profession both for humans and animals alike no longer
CARES about the dignity of their patients nor the finances of the
person paying for it.. all they care about is their Own wallets and
they'll do anything they can to line it as DEEPLY as they can.......
playing on your emotions..... in spite of what you know is best for
whom the care is concerned. I hate this game..... this TOYING with
our nerves.... so they can get richer! And what do we end up with but
shattered hearts and empty pockets..... A few months after Patches
died BARK mag had a feature on the first Canine heart
transplant.............. hefty price yeah.. who has that kind of
money of course .. you'd need... yes... insurance! It's always about
money these days! Always about how to make more of it and doesn't
matter a whit about anything else!!!!!!!!

Just my two pence...
