My family has talked about camping for some time -- I think I want to 
experiment with cooking by putting a dutch oven on a campfire.

I think people get too caught up in cooking technology - it's all about 
applying heat. I went through a year where my oven acted up, and we 
barbecued the whole time (one nice thing about living in California is 
having BBQ weather most of the year!)

By moving the coals to the side and covering the lid, you get the same 
effect you get with a stove.

I told a friend of mine about my year with the BBQ and he agreed - he  told 
us a story about working on a big construction project out in the boonies. 
They lived out on the site without a real kitchen. his comment?

"We barbecued a BIRTHDAY CAKE!"
