    Hornets Open in New Home With Rout (AP)

AP - The New Orleans Hornets felt right at home in Oklahoma City, and
 the San Antonio Spurs picked up where they left off last season.
 Opening night in the NBA on Tuesday featured four games, including the
 Hornets' first "home" game in Oklahoma City, a championship ceremony in
 San Antonio, Maurice Cheeks' return to Philadelphia and a thrilling
 rematch of last year's conference semifinals between the Dallas
 Mavericks and Phoenix Suns.

    Seahawks' Fisher Sworn Into National Guard (AP)

AP - Bryce Fisher strode confidently into the room, wearing his navy
 uniform. The helmet and shoulder pads were missing on the Seattle
 Seahawks defensive end, replaced by captain's bars, a white shirt and
 navy tie. Fisher spent Tuesday, his day off from practicing with the
 Seahawks, taking the oath of office as a captain in the Washington Air
 National Guard.

    Bruins' Leetch Leaves With Knee Injury (AP)

AP - Brian Leetch injured his right knee in the second period of the
 Boston Bruins' 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday
 night and didn't return.

    Sister of Chargers' Godfrey Shot to Death (AP)

AP - The sister of San Diego Chargers linebacker Randall Godfrey was
 found fatally shot in her car Tuesday after a wreck following a chase
 by her former boyfriend, police said.

    Spurs open title defense with win over Nuggets (Reuters)

Reuters - Tony Parker scored 26 points and Tim Duncan added 19 points
 and 10 rebounds Tuesday when the San Antonio Spurs opened its defense
 of the NBA title with a 102-91 win over Denver Nuggets.

    GOLD GLOVE 'GRATIFYING' TO JETER (New York Post)

New York Post - He hasn't been fitted for a World Series ring in five
 years, but Derek Jeter takes his winning where he can find it.
