On 07-21-09, ROSS SAUER said to ALL: RS>Yesterday I had a terrific time. RS>At the Sheboygan airport 3 WW2 planes flew in, and I saw them land. RS>A P-51, a B-24, and a B-17. RS>The sound, was pure music. RS>Here's the article in the Sheboygan Press about the event. RS>http://tinyurl.com/kr2ybs (Yawn) Every year around the first part of May, a group of the Confederate Air Force fly vintage WWII (and even a couple of WWI-era bi and tri-planes) into Gillespie near here for the annual Gillespie Field Air Show. And there are; B-17's B-24's B-25's DC 3's One DC 4 One of the original `flying wing' aircraft Several brands of fighter planes Two of the old single-seat Piper Cubs An F-86 Sabre Jet Two Russian Migs A Japanese Zero Two or three Messerschmidts 109's and one Messerschmidt 110 Chinese Migs of Korean War vintage Propeller fighters for Air Craft Carrier WWII operations (Corsairs, Mustangs, etc etc and on and on and on! Buying a ticket (about 5 bucks) gets you an all-day tour of these aircraft. Not to mention the stands offering WWII vintage uniforms, patches, yaddida yaddida About $250.00 will get you a trip up in a B-17 and about a 30 minute flight. A DC 3 or DC 4 flight is around $150.00. I once sat at the controls of one of the DC 3's talking to one of the pilots. Its actually a pretty easy plane to fly, although a good bit of prior instruction would be wise. The old Piper Cub single seaters were so easy to fly, you could climb in, take off and fly it with no trouble at all. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 249/303 SEEN-BY: 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 5030/1256 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
