Richard,
For the AMD system I hope you spec'd out an nVidia nForce4 chipset based =
mainboard. I have mainly used VIA chipset boards, but for my next A64 =
upgrade there is no question in my mind that I will go with an ASUS =
nVidia mainboard.
Also while I have been using nothing but ATI video cards for a while and =
don't plan to change, for your applications the nVidia Quadro FX PCI-X =
SLI cards might be interesting. SLI allows the use of two Quadros that =
share the rendering workload. Super fast, but not cheap. But as the =
saying goes "time is money"

Big John,
I dood it, dood. I'm getting an Intel 3.4e and an Athlon 3500+ in
early March for testing, so I am no longer ashamed of myself, just
embarrassed beyond belief. The machines will be the same except for
mobo (Intel/Asus) and processors.
I'll let you know what we find out. The winning chip will go in about
a dozen replacement PCs here.
