ALthough it's suppsed to be 'good for them' to get sniped/fixed I
think it's actually better for us that they do. SO the idea of
'they'll be healthier" might not be all together true.

Especially with female dogs. It's more convenient for US that they're
fixed/spayed/neutered. But it sounds better if said 'it's better for
the dog'.

I'm glad we got Abbie neutered. When we first got her last May at what
the vet says was 10 mos... she was in heat. That was no fun for her or
for us to take care of and she was VERY HYPER... and we could not take
her for a walk without fear of male dogs ... if you know what I mean.

By mid June she was out of heat for two weeks so it was safe to get her
neutered. I must say she is still playful and loveable but settles
down when you tell her to. :)

One thing I didn't know about dogs after they are 'fixed'. The male
can still impregnate a female in heat up to 90 days after he is
'fixed' becasue some sperm is stored outside the testes.

The female can attract male dogs after she is neutered for ... I think
a month or two I forget ... due to her hormones. She has a 'false
heat'.. sort of IIRC from the Vet info.

The reason the female must be out of heat for two weeks, (no
discharge) is due to the hormones mostly. If done too soon she may
experience 'false pregnacy' for the rest of her life. Also surgery is
safer when the estrus cycle is over with.

That one iS a good one haha.

About the one with the trick putting the food on the dog's snout and
having htem 'catch ' it. That wouldn't work with a short nosed dog
anwya.

Here's one more thing. Isn't it STrange to teach a dog to 'beg'? Shake
hands??? They do that naturally. Same for sit. Small dogs anyway will
sit down without command almost always.
