Replying to a message of TOM WALKER to ROY WITT: BA>>>>> Heating oil is up $.40 in the past week or so. It's now about BA>>>>> $3.35/gallon. Dunno what I'm going to do next winter. RW>>>> Start collecting used deep fry oil from the fast food RW>>>> joints...there's a method to clean and thin it so it should work. TW>>> For a Diesel Car that may work but it is Hardly practical TW>>> concidering the Usage rate for House Heating. RW>> If that's true and I doubt that it is, then put the diesel engine in RW>> the basement and the coolant radiator upstairs...run a 12vdc fan off RW>> the alternator on the radiator. TW> How many Gallons per month typicaly does one need to heat their House TW> i nthe Winter? In a cold month the oil furnace here will suck down about 200 gallons. A bit less than 7 gallons/day - at $3.40/gallon . TW> DO you think you can get that much Used Vegetable oil TW> per month from a Fast Food resturant? 7 gallons/day is probably doable if one has 2 or 3 restaurants as sources. Used motor oil is probably a better source, IMO - there are already furnaces that handle that. But if they haven't yet those folks are going to realize that they can *sell* the used oil from the fryers. There are several people that run diesel autos/trucks on used vegetable oil they've collected and filtered. TW> Then think about it. IT IS A NOT PRACTICAL solution for home heating TW> on any scale at all. Especially if several dozen/hundred people are all trying to do it. The supply of used vegetable oil is finite, especially in small towns. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 14/300 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
