We're waging a war right now in Oregon to try to
RETAIN THE RIGHT of private citizens to exercise
their 2nd Amendment RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS at
gun shows in Oregon.
Right now a PRIVATE CITIZEN can purchase a firearm at
a gunshow from a PRIVATE gun collector at without
HAVING TO FIRST let the damn government know about it.
That could change if Anti-Gun Wacko Senator Ginny
Burdick's ballot Measure #5 passes come this November 3rd.
ANTI-GUN Senator Ginny Burdick, from the Oregon
Legislature is trying to pass a ballot measure
that would PREVENT PRIVATE CITIZENS from selling their
PRIVATE firarms to OTHER PRIVATE CITIZENS at gunshows
UNLESS they first do a background check on the prospective
gun purchaser.
Mind you, gun dealers - those individuals who sell firearms
for a living and who hold Federal Firearm Licences - STILL
HAVE TO DO background checks (NICS background checks) on
individuals who want to purchase a gun from them whether
that transaction takes place at a "gun store" or at a
gun show.
THIS new proposed law would *FORCE* PRIVATE CITIZENS who
are *NOT* gun dealers and who go to gun shows to sell
their PRIVATE gun collections to do STATE MANDATED
BACKGROUND CHECKS on PRIVATE CITIZENS who want to
purchase their firearms.
MAKE NO MISTAKE THIS IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS OUTLAWING
THE PRIVATE SALE OF FIRARMS BETWEEN U.S. CITIZENS IN OREGON!
THIS IS *ALSO* THE FIRST STEP IN REGISTERING ALL GUN SALES
TRANSACTIONS WHICH TAKE PLACE IN OREGON WHETHER OR NOT
THAT TRANSACTION TAKES PLACE AT A GUN SHOW, A GUN STORE
OR IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR OWN HOME!

Senator John McCain's collaboration with the ultra-leftists who
are pushing Measure 5 should come as no surprise. Still, the
millions being poured into this campaign by the group McCain is
shilling for do make this battle that much tougher. (So much for
the "grass roots" campaign Burdick promised.)
The out of state organization that paid for the ads McCain
recorded attacking your rights has pledged an incredible amount
of money. (The great irony, of course, is that had McCain passed
the "campaign finance" reform that he crafted to silence groups
like O.F.F., he would not have been allowed to film the
commercials!)
The gun grabbers have the perfect hypocrite as a spokesman and
that's why we need your help now more then ever. Anything you
can do to help us in this battle is needed and needed now. We're
spending every dime we have, but we sure don't have millions.
On a positive note, we were gratified to see a press release
from the Oregon Republican Party slamming McCain. We thank them
for taking a principled stand for your rights, however we were
baffled by the comments made in a recent NRA alert, quoted
below:
"McCAIN-LAUTENBERG?
Readers of the FAX Alert are familiar with U.S. Sen. John McCain
(R-Ariz.) teaming up with anti-gunner Sen. Russ Feingold
(D-Wisc.) to promote so-called "campaign finance reform." This
week, McCain filmed an ad in support of Amendment 22 in Colorado
-- a Lautenberg-style gun show ban ballot initiative.
The commercials are being financed with soft money from
Americans for Gun Safety -- a new national anti-gun group with
chapters in 28 states, funded by billionaire Andrew J. McKelvey
of Monster.com.
NRA's opposition to Amendment 22 is based in many of the same
reasons that we opposed the Lautenberg gun show language in the
Senate, but we agree with Senator McCain in opposing the larger
Gore agenda of licensing, testing, and photo-ID schemes.
Anti-gunners no doubt also winced at McCain's support of
Right-to-Carry, which he voiced on ABC's "Good Morning America"
on Thursday. "
Hardly a rousing condemnation! No mention that McCain's ads are
running in Oregon AND a pat on the back for McCain at the end of
the quote. This for a guy who came back for Viet Nam to a
faithful wife who was confined to a wheelchair and promptly
dumped her for a model who's daddy owned a distillery. That
should lock down the soccer mom vote.

As you may know, O.F.F. director Kevin Starrett will be debating
Ginny Burdick on Oct. 19th at noon at the Wild Duck Restaurant
in Eugene. 169 West 6th Street. It is open to the public. Come
and rattle Burdick's cage.

We were recently alerted to a web page belonging to the
Washington County Sheriff's department. (Washington County
Sheriff Jim Spinden is a supporter of Burdick's Measure 5.)
On the "Gang Enforcement Team" page they had a contact person
in case you had information about "gangs."
One of the types of gangs listed was "Constitutionalists."
So that's what Spinden thinks of us.
After complaints from some "Constitutionalists" the category
was changed to "anarchists, Russian gangs." There, that's
better.
Spinden ,you may recall, had been telling CHL applicants
they could not carry on school grounds. We think he's
stopped telling that lie, but we're not sure
Another supporter of Measure 5, Sheriff Dan Noelle, of
Multnomah County, is being sued for altering the pistol
license application to include information about race and
occupation. (A little "profiling" going on here?)
And finally, still another supporter of Measure 5, Sheriff
Raul Ramirez of Marion County, has been telling applicants
for CHL's that they have to live in the county for 6 months
before applying. (We called and checked and they told us the
same lie.) Just one problem, it's totally false.
These are the kinds of people that are supporting Measure 5.
Not real reassuring is it?

The new onslaught by big out of state money is really taking
its toll. Please consider doing whatever you can to
