SC> And using a decorative stitch makes it a bit fancier than a
SC> straight stitch. I've always been leery (sp?) about machine
SC> stitching binding for the reason of missing some on one side.
SC> Using the decorative stitch would solve this - more coverage.
It solved the problem perfectly. I was dreading doing 16+ yards (it ended up
nearly 18 yards) of binding by hand because of the carpel tunnel problem.
Then got to looking through my stitches and decided to give it a try. It
worked out great. I only had about 5 inches in one spot where I didn't catch
it as tight on the backside as I would have liked, so I took a thin strip of
heat and bond and fused it to the underside of the binding there, and the top
of the backing where it was loose. Used a presscloth and it worked great.
SC> I think this is a nice combination. Do you use a lot of rayon
SC> threads in your decorative sewing? That's something I should
I use some rayons. I have gone through about 5 spools of it in the last 6
months. I try to buy sulky when it is 40% off, or 50% off, so I don't feel
like I am paying too high a price for it. One thing with it, you definately
need to drop your tension by a couple of notches. My normal setting is 6 and
I drop it to 4 (occasionally as low as 1 or two if using a metallic). Using
Sewer's Aid helps too. I have been told by my Bernina dealer that it is ok
o
use it on the spool, in fact in one class she applied it to my spool herself.
I used a burgundy rayon to make designs on napkins for my DH's sister's
christmas present.
SC> P.S. Got your star block - very pretty. Danielle really likes it.
I am glad that it arrived safely. Do you think she will get interested in
piecing?
