GP> As with human cancer, the money/profit is in TREATMENT, not definitive GP> responses to the condition (putting the dog down only gives a one-time GP> shot of cash to the vet and nevermore again) I share your view George with a slight bent toward 'they do it because they can.'. So it's up to us the consumers to watch our own wallets. It cost 200 bucks at the animal emergency room last week- they said 'there's nothing wrong'... Sent dog home with tummy medicine. 9/11 and yep it was that- my sister rushed him back to the clinic where he was in critical condition *(3k!) and wanted to operate (10K). Intestinal bleeding had filled his lungs and an eye... A vet then determined the problem was stomach cancer and recommended putting him to sleep. Of course that was the only way to go. Not just for the money but to put his poor long time ailing pet out of his misery. He's been sick with 'sour stomach' for years. No matter how carefully my sister monitored his diet, he'd get sick from time to time. I worry my Shih Tzu, who has a delicate stomach as well, might be on that path too. I hope not. But if he is we'll know what to do ahead of time, because vets won't always help you make the big E decision, until AFTER they clean your wallet out. Depends on the vet of course. But bottom line 'Buyer beware' never meant more than it does today. This brings me to another troubling topic. When people say: "It's ONLY a dog" I want to scream! What does that mean? ONLY ?? ONLY??????? ONLY? This really gets me boiling. Human beings in general seem to think they value all life, but theirs is the most valuable..... BUT then, what do they do with that human life? While ""mere"" as it were, pets are granted mercy when they are dying- humans require special documentation to a be allowed the same dignity! I realize this is to avoid hanky panky but then again it seems absurd! You have to be put on a machine to keep you going until even that fails? Even against your will? Why? Is that valuing life? I don't think so! It's torturing the hell out of it. I read somewhere and I know you'll correct me and that is okay: but there are SOME people who think Humans are MEANT to suffer because suffering is what earns you a place in heaven. This is b.s. to me.... but um the view is there. And "explains" why some people afford dignity in dying to that which we regard as 'inferior' but not to our fellows. strange. Cindy ...
