As Dave has already said, that's not what the publicity actually says
- in fact there's been a lot about how it's an adaptation of an
existing show.
My feeling is that Moffat is very good at throwing in little ideas
that have the fans saying "Oh yeah, I remember that..." while the
younger and newer viewers won't get it, but don't need to because it
stands up well enough in its own right. So if I go, I'll be watching
the son of Vorg with a still-illegal Scope augmented to the Nth degree
and showing all these old and new aliens, thinking "This has come a
long way since Carnival" - whereas younger viewers will just be
watching because, well, because.
None of this means it has to be to your taste, of course, and I
respect your right to hate its guts - I just don't think it's a case
of running out of ideas.
