That's surely a bit harsh!
Agree with almost all of your comments -- especially on the direction
and the terrific Tardis introduction -- but I end up with 7/10 !
Given what this episode had to do, it's an astonishingly well put
together episode that introduces multiple new recurring characters,
re-introduces Who to a mainstream audience, and adds some mystery and
adventure back in at the same time.
Yes the pacing is odd, yes some special effects don't work, and yes the
autons are basically wallpaper but who cares when the important
fundamentals of the new Doctor, the new Tardis and the new companion all
work so very very well? Has to be more than a 5!
all the best,
Ian
