HA! Sorry, that was too easy. The bottom line regarding canon
is to save face. No need to explain a plot conflict away when you can
merely look at the source and declare it "Non-canon" and therefore avoid
the whole issue.

Bad analogy. Would you have a Sicilian stop speaking his dialect
because it was not "canon" Italian? Trek is the same way.
Maybe the whole issue of "canon" vs "non-canon" is merely the
expression
of society's overall failure to get along with each other. We spend
inordinate
amounts of time splitting things up along national, racial, spiritual,
political
and other lines. Always trying to decide which one is better. If that's the
case, Poor Gene's ashes must be rolling around in that little space capsule
of his, because all of us have missed his point on a galactic scale.
