Reuters - Lockheed Martin Corp.  said on Tuesday third-quarter profit
 rose a better-than-expected 39 percent as the No. 1 U.S. defense
 contractor boosted sales of electronic systems, government satellites
 and deliveries of its C-130J transport planes.

    BellSouth's third-quarter earnings flat (Reuters)

Reuters - BellSouth Corp. , the No. 3 U.S. local telephone company, said
 on Tuesday its third-quarter profit was flat compared with a year
 earlier as growth in wireless was balanced with costs from Hurricane
 Katrina.

    Stocks point lower on earnings (Reuters)

Reuters - Stock futures fell, suggesting a lower market open on Tuesday,
 after semiconductor maker Texas Instruments Inc.  gave a disappointing
 revenue outlook, dimming optimism about fourth-quarter earnings
 results.

    HCA 3rd-quarter profit rises 23 percent (Reuters)

Reuters - HCA Inc. , the largest U.S. hospital chain, on Tuesday
 reported third-quarter profit rose 23 percent as price increases and
 repatriation of overseas earnings helped offset disruptions caused by
 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

    Ameritrade profit jumps, revenue up (Reuters)

Reuters - Online broker Ameritrade Holding Corp.  on Tuesday said
 quarterly profit jumped as it netted higher interest revenue and
 commissions.

AP - China's urban spending on construction, factory equipment and other
 fixed assets rose at its fastest pace so far this year in September,
 the government said Tuesday, though the country's top economic planner
 forecast slower growth in years to come.
