AP - Brady Quinn passed for 440 yards and three touchdowns, two to Jeff
Samardzija, leading No. 13 Notre Dame to a 49-28 victory over Purdue on
Saturday night.
No. 1 Southern Cal Pops No. 14 Arizona St. (AP)
AP - The strength and speed of LenDale White and Reggie Bush lifted No.
1 USC out of trouble on a sweltering Saturday in the desert. White
rushed for 197 yards in 19 attempts, Bush gained 158 in 17 carries, and
the Trojans rallied from 18 points down at the half to beat No. 14
Arizona State 38-28, breaking a Pac-10 and school record with their
26th victory in a row.
No. 12 California Waylays Arizona 28-0 (AP)
AP - Marshawn Lynch ran for 107 yards and a touchdown in his first game
back from an injury and No. 12 California shut out Arizona for the
second straight year, 28-0 Saturday.
Yankees Win Eighth Straight AL East Title (AP)
AP - The New York Yankees are going to the playoffs. And the Boston Red
Sox still have a couple of chances to join them there. New York won its
eighth consecutive AL East title on Saturday, scorching Tim Wakefield
for three homers and riding Randy Johnson to an 8-4 victory over
Boston.
Astros Ride Rocket to Brink of Playoffs (AP)
AP - Roger Clemens got a little run support and guaranteed the Houston
Astros at least a tie in the NL wild-card race. Clemens allowed one run
in seven innings while pitching on a still sore left hamstring, leading
the Astros over the Chicago Cubs 3-1 Saturday and putting Houston on
the brink of a return to the playoffs.
Bengals Stop Security Pat-Downs (AP)
AP - The Cincinnati Bengals scrapped plans to have security guards give
pat-downs to fans attending Sunday's game against the Houston Texans
when local officials refused to foot the bill.
Heat Will Try to Put New Pieces Together (AP)
AP - Slumped at his locker, moments after Miami's season ended in a Game
7 loss to Detroit in the Eastern Conference finals, Shaquille O'Neal
was looking toward the future. "Next year," said the Heat center, his
tone barely above a whisper, "we've got to start from square one."
Dodgers Nips NL West Champion Padres 2-1 (AP)
AP - The San Diego Padres will go into the playoffs with a dubious
distinction -- they'll have the lowest winning percentage for a
division winner in a non-strike season. Edwin Jackson and five
relievers combined on a three-hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who
beat NL West champion San Diego 2-1 on Saturday night, snapping the
Padres' four-game winning streak.

AP - Herculez Gomez scored twice to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-1
victory Saturday over FC Dallas.

AP - Drew Olson threw for a pair of second-half touchdowns and took No.
20 UCLA on a long scoring march in the closing minutes to rally the

Jankovic to Meet Vaidisova in Seoul Final (AP)
AP - Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia-Montenegro regrouped after
losing the second set to defeat third-seeded Tatiana Golovin of France

Choi, Trahan Share Chrysler Classic Lead (AP)
AP - K.J. Choi shot a 5-under-67 and D.J. Trahan shot 66 Saturday to tie
