Someone already said it didn't happen in this century, but it happened in
1876 and 1888. I can guess that some others (like 1860) involved a
plurality - less than 50% - of both votes.
Let's see ... in order for someone to have a majority of the electoral
college and minority of the popular vote, he'd have to lose a few of the
most populous states and will all of the smaller states (maybe only
barely). Certainly sounds posible.
