CH> Yeah they are our family members but we have to remember for their
CH> sake they're dogs. Their needs are not so hard to fill. The food, the
CH> water the shelter is fine but what they need most of is exercise and
 CH> exercise and discipline.

Also you forgot...they also miss people.

CH> CM puts it like this. A dog's life should be 50 percent exercise, 25
CH> percent discipline (I guess he means as in behavior training) and 25
CH> percent affection (at the right time).

Every dog in my life has been different..like people. Glad for it.

CH> He puts a lot of emphasis on exercise. It's not hard to figure out.
CH> Dogs have a lot of energy and walks at least an hour a day channels it
CH> off productively. I think the same is true with humans too. We need a
CH> good walk every day too.

Thats why dogs and humans are meant for each other....hahahha

CH> Of course I think my Cosmo who is 10 and not very active (he's always
CH> been rather a low energy dog)- a walk around the block twice a day is
CH> his take. We try to go for longer walks with him and he's okay for
CH> about a 1/4 mile but then tires out.. he gets asthmatic.

Try a BullDog... now there is low everything...until you need him.

CH> I feel sorry for big dogs running with their human. Dr. Fox says dogs
CH> need to stop every now and then. They're not meant to run long
CH> distances without stopping. He wasn't too clear on how long too long
CH> is though. I mean he rollar blades with the big breeds he rehabs..and
CH> they go for an hour run! hmm. That's big breeds. And in cool weather.
CH> (I think they take a break half way)..

A dog has a need to stop all the time to check for territory, and to
mark it all for himself. They also have other things they check
in the wild.

CH> CM would say you are humanizing him. We all do this. The dogs needs
CH> are very simple. And just like us they do not like being sick or
CH> unable to take a long walk say. Dogs love to walk. They need to. It's
CH> wired into them. ... Read Cesar's Way and you'll understand. This guy
CH> explains dogs completely and understandably.

1948 to 2007 has taught me all I need to know about dogs. My first baby
pictures are with a BullDog in Scotland. He was my companion my pal
and my guardian. He also started me on the long road to understand
dogs. We also had Bull Massifs and collie and that collie was a great
sheep dog. Never been bitten by any dog. Taught at by them all
how not to be a victim.

I have read all books by the experts, and in my job I had to take a
course on dogs...which was not correct. Still reading, and find a
lot of it interesting stuff, but nothing outstanding.

On the farm in CANADA ... I slept out in the field one night with
my dog due to livestock being injured. It was the dog who detected
the threat. he directed where to look and it also was first contact
with me in support. I have shot over the heads of wild dog packs
that send them packing ...and they never comeback.

Wolfs ... seen them. Admire them for what they are, and enjoyed
too what they have taught me about how a dog might live in the wild
on it's own like the cat does.

CH> Woods are great. :) The only down side is check for ticks. I hate
CH> those tings. I forget about them .. we don't have much in that way
CH> where I live but they're there out in the woods someplace I'm sure.

I have always checked the Rusty for ticks, and other things, but
he is lucky I guess due to meds i give him as well natural stuff
in his food.

CH> You'd love his book. "Cesar's Way" he too grew up with dogs but not
CH> in this country. In Mexico dogs run free, even owned dogs. They're not
CH> pampered like they are here.

In Scotland we did the same. They all ran free in the village. No
problems until the city people wanted village life....then our life
disappeared. Same thing happened here.

CH> Wouldn't it be great to walk with our dog without a leash and they
CH> stay right with you? CM noticed this with the homeless in LA. Dogs
CH> stay with their owners. They act as pack members with the human as the
CH> leader. They don't get distracted at all.

CH> Now that's true loyalty. Not having to have a leash at all.

Depends on the breed. The pack moves as a group with point dogs
wandering out ahead of the main pack. Seen this a lot with my
dogs as an adult. As a child, they stayed right with me.

CH> Really? Hmm. I wonder. How did that work? The cures in Scotland. I
CH> take by the poisoned cats you mean the practice of laying out poison
CH> against unwanted animals on one's property?

Try Rat poison. My Grandmother's forumla saved every cat's life
from Rat Poison. She was well known for this for 100 miles.

CH> I read of that in James Harris's book. (Another great one!)
CH> *(All creatures large and small; and the sequel.. Got both in a
CH> tome at a discount book store.) Have you read it?

James Harris is from the same area as my family in Yorkshire.

CH> :) Well we can't help humanize them a little. I think what CM means
CH> is the overdoing it like the ilk of Paris Hilton does for example....
CH> And moneymakers do with fancy doggie hotels ...

MMmmmm no I don't go that overboard. Rusty isn't wearing clothes.

CH> As long as you are the pack leader your dog will be your follower no
CH> matter where you live. But if a dog was running free out in the
CH> country once, he may not adjust well to indoor life. He needs walking.

All our dogs in Scotland were out door dogs. In the winter they came
home, and were okay. Country dogs are better then city dogs.
They know their jobs and what is expected of them.

CH> You heard the parrot joke didn't you? About the beguiler who is
CH> stopped when the Parrot warns him Jesus will get you! The burglar
CH> ignores the dog until this big brute rushes at him. heh.. The dog's
 CH> name was Jesus.
 CH> ...........

Yep... heard that and a few others too....

And I still like my cats, but not how I am getting them. Humans are
the most cruel things to see. I see it with dogs and cats and other
animals they abuse.

Sorry to see you have to take meds due to kitty, but if not your
home would be over run...with kittys and that isn't fair either.

I see enough of them dead on the road...and while I am not a cat
person, and I guess due to too many kitty deaths, and seeing
them that I fear for my two survivors of the human death camps.

ttfn see you next time...

Peter
