IH> Oh NO, stuff written after 1610. (Date of Monterverdi's Vespers) ;-)
RH>> I like stuff written either before that date, or after 1940,

IH> And in Cooking, I saw from Michael's comment that you
IH> replied to me, but unfortunately your reply never
IH> reached me :-(((
He moved his reply over there. FIDO has been chewing the newspaper again,
methinks.
IH> I wonder if you could possibly resend it for me, if you
IH> do as I do, which is to keep a copy of all
IH> correspondence to and from me directly.
I would if I could, but right now I don't even have a functional offline
reader.
IH> What can I send you? As we're still talking about love,
IH> how about an iced summer tomato soup?
My father will like this one; he's the household tomato junkie. We've also
planted regular, cherry, and plum tomatoes. I fully expect to be swimming in
love apples this summer!
Hmmm, anything handy to send back? Michael just got bombarded with
chow-chow-recipes, so I'll lay off those.[had him complaining about lima
beans....]
Hmmm, how about this turn of the century Pennsylvania German recipe?
Spiced Cantaloupe
6 pounds of cantaloupe [musk mellon] cut as nearly one size as possible, 4
quarts of water, 1 ounce of alum; bring to the boiling point, drop in your
fruit, cook 15 minutes, lift and drain a short while. Then take 1 quart
vinegar, 3 pounds white sugar, 3 teaspoonfuls of yellow mustard seed, 1
teaspoonful of black mustardseed, 1 teaspoonful whole mace, 8 inch stick
cinnamon, 9 whole cloves, about a dozen whole allspice. Place the fruit in
it and slowly cook until clear requires about 2 hours.
