MM> This is a nice quote from Ivan Illich, _Gender_.
MM> " Under the reign of gender, men and women collectively depend on
MM> eachother; their mutual dependence sets limits to struggle,
Really?
Women were more exploited when they were _legally_ treated as the
property of their husbands. Their is a state appeals court decision in this
state from that era that allowed a husband to legally beat his wife with any
stick small enough to put through her wedding ring (and such rules were
common in other states).
"Mutual dependence sets limits to struggle"? The economic dependence of
those days was entirely of the woman's dependence on her husband!
MM> In contrast to this truce, the regime of [economic] scarcity imposes
MM> continued war and ever new kinds of defeat on each woman. While
MM> under
MM> the reign of gender women might be subordinate, under ANY economic
MM> regime they are ONLY the second sex.
There are a lot of women richer than either me or you.
That's hardly "only the second sex"!
If Illich really believes this garbage, he's overpaid by someone!
