Here is the earliest example I remember.  I don't have a DVD
of the relevant scene.  This may inspire others to cite more correctly -

At the end of "Planet of the Spiders", the 3rd doctor returns
to UNIT to regenerate.  He says to Sarah Jane "The TARDIS
brought me home."  She says something along the lines of
"You say that as if it's alive," and the Doctor replies
"Yes."

Anybody have a better rendering?  And is this the best first
example?
