subject: cory disease

BH> You should be careful putting so many medications and such in
BH> at the same time,it will stress the other fish.
AQUARI-SOL is the only medication i'm putting in the tank... ACT and BIOZYME
are the enzymes that eat the amonia and other waste products and convert them
into unharmful items...
BH> Is the affected area on the cory pale or darker?
pale, almost white...
BH> does it look like a scrape or something like that?
the bones of his dorsal fin are completely exposed... no meat on them...
 BH> are there scales missing?
yes, it appears so... he's pretty small (about 2" long) and _very_ active...
 BH> If
BH> yes to any of these questions isolate the cory AT ONCE!!
if i had another place to isolate him to, i would... unfortunately, all i'd
be able to put him in at this time would be a kitchen mixing bowl with an
airstone and no heater to keep the water temp about 70F...
BH> What breed is your cory?
err... the store i got all the corys from had these listed as "green cory."
they were $1.99US each... others were more expensive and i was basically
looking for "scavengers" to help keep the tank clean...
BH> How many tanks do you have?
two, right now... a 30gal with a =large= pleco and an oscar that is larger
than my hand... the oscar is about the size of a desert plate... about
9inches from nose to tail... had to get a large pleco to put in with him...
large enough that oscar couldn't eat the pleco >
the other tank is a 15gal with the three corys, a pleco, and 7 mollies...
these mollies would appear to be just plain ole mollies... they are white
with a few dark spots on them... i have one or the original dozen i bought
left and all the others are babies that were born from the original dozen...
yes, several of them were pregant when i bought them... the black mollies i
had in that buy didn't make it and only two baby black mollies were born...
the last one was 1/4 the size of the smallest "white molly" when he died...
both tanks have been set up and operational for 4 months or more... the oscar
is about a year old and was originally in the 15gal tank...
 BH> what kinds of fish?
see above ;-)
BH> How long have you been into fishkeeping?
this is the first time in a long time... and it's the most i've ever done
with them... all my other setups didn't last very long and were only goldfish
or a mix of neons, black mollies, and swordtails... the last was done over 15
years ago when i was still back in school... i guess i was maybe 12 to 14
years old when i had my last small tank...
BH> reply quickly and we might be able to solve your problem.
i'm continuing with the AQUARI-SOL treatment in the tank... have the temp
raised to about 78F... all the fish are active and do not seem to be stressed
at all... my son note the other day that several of the mollies were "eating"
at the "sick" cory's back area where this "scrape" or whatever is located...
thanks for your response and help in this situation...
