What do you mean - "is the future that bad"? Trying to decipher what point
you're trying to make shows that the present has enough problems, let alone
the future! And how can anyone know if the future is bad in any way, seeing
as nobody has ever been there? Presumably you're talking about the future as
portrayed in Dr Who. It's a bit difficult to know though as you've not given
me much to go on.
At a guess, your first sentence is about Vicki (not Vicky) in the Chase.
Vicki was meant to be from the 24th century. The Chase was broadcast in
1965, while the Beatles were still together. In the episode, she identifies
the music at "classical music". The music we call classical music is from
the period 1750 to 1820. Having said that, many people today have fused the
baroque, classical, romantic and modern periods into one and call it all
"classical". And many others simply call any music that's not pop
"classical". Of course it was pop to Ian and Barbara - they were
from 1965.
And of course it wasn't pop to Vicki - she was from 400 years later. But the
line from Vicki was meant to be a little bit of humour.
By 42, I guess you mean the new episode called "42". That was set
on a space
ship at some point in the future. Why are you assuming everybody in the
future would have heard of the Beatles, or know/care how the word should be
pronounced? I bet I can mention names of bands around today that you'd
pronounce incorrectly, let alone bands from centuries ago. Lynard Skynard.
Justin Bieber. Autechre. Sigur Ros. But again, the mispronounciation was
just a bit of humour.
Don't let it keep you awake worrying at night!
