Well, the kidney story may not be such a laugh, because that was the
second time that I heard this kind of story. One day, about 6 months ago,
I was getting a haircut. The guy in the next chair was talking about a
trip to Las Vegas that he took with a buddy. He was gambling, and from the
corner of his eye, he saw his buddy disappearing with an attractive young
woman. He didn't see his friend, and attempts to locate him failed. He
returned home, and the next day he received a telephone call from his
friend from a Las Vegas hospital. It seems hat the last thing that his
friend remembered was sharing a drink with this woman. The next thing he
remembered, he was in a motel room, in a tubfull of water, with a note
tied to his wrist telling him to call 911 immediately. It turned out that
he lost one kidney. Police and doctors told him that he was the 6th person
to have lost a kidney in this manner in Las Vegas in the previous 3
months. With an increasing demand for donor organs, and the inability of
established organ banks to meet this demand, there are persons and
networks who will do anything to obtain these organs. Persons who do alot
of overseas travel, along with military personel have noted that this kind
of thing has gone on in Asian and African countries for many years. Though
it is extremely unlikely that this would happen to you, it is just
something else to be aare of. And by the way, hold on to your purse and/or
wallet too.
