Actually, like a math teacher.

"Logical consistency" means that we ignore the validity of the base
assumptions and merely see if the conclusion follows from them. If the
assumptions are not valid (are "wrong"), then it is not surprising if the
conclusion is.
There's a famous mathematician who said that he could prove anything
based on a false assumption. Someone was stupid enough to challange him
on it. This other guy said "Okay, assume 2=1. Now prove I am the Pope."
The mathematician immediately answered: "2=1. You and the Pope are two.
Therefore, you are one!" ;-)
