Anne Page wrote in a message to Roger Nelson: AP> I'm glad you aren't bashful about speaking your mind. LOL. I'm not like that normally. (-: AP> Please understand that I am not in any way a tekkie, just a user, AP> and even though I read a variety of information about what made AP> Fido run most of it was Greek to me. To a lot of us starting out, it was the same way. It definitely happened to me. AP> I never had any responsibility for the updating of the echo nor AP> any knowledge of ways to get traffic back when people drifted AP> away. Sorry. I didn't consider that at the time I spoke my mind. I apologize. We'll attempt to keep that to nothing more than a squeek. AP> LOL. What would you have done if weeks went by and you kept AP> posting "Is anybody here?" messages with no replies ever being AP> posted? I'd probably do the same thing you did, but I see that message in echoes every day and that includes today. Sometimes one of the guys from my old net would notice no postings in an echo and would write the following: "Gee, it's dark in here." AP> Would you keep going into the echo and doing that for more than a AP> few months? That is why I stopped and why I told Thom that I AP> considered it a dead echo that could go away from the backbone. I don't blame you. I look at every list from Thom and also from my uplink to see what is still active on the Backbone. I don't scrutinize Thom's list because if an echo is on the Backbone, I automatically assume (yes, I know) it has a moderator. AP> But I wasn't the one updating it in my name and I didn't know who AP> was doing it and at that point was not interested in contacting the AP> person myself if Thom could figure out who it was and ask him to AP> take it off his updating utility program that did the renewing AP> automatically. If I was correct as to who it was updating the echo, then Thom couldn't contact him. AP> As I said at the start of this dialogue several days ago, I was AP> surprised to find an active Doghouse Echo and delighted it was on AP> the backbone but not happy to think I was or might be the moderator AP> when I am not a dog owner and with other activities online might AP> not read the message base daily. I live in a house with two adult cats, one kitten, and three dogs. One of the dogs was given to me by my best friend recently. It is a Yorkshire Terrier and of the other two, they are a Mini-Doberman and a Chihuahua/Dachsund mix. The "Yorky" and the Doberman are males and the other is female -- just the opposite of the sexes of the three cats in the house. The Doberman is a trip. He's nothing like the once-in-a-lifetime German shepherd I had for almost 15 years, but kind of fun, nevertheless. AP> I don't read Fidonet echoes these days, I come to the BBS to play AP> BRE, and most of my time online is Internet stuff. So knowing AP> Doghouse Echo is in good hands makes me very happy and I will AP> visit from time to time to share some of the "dog stuff" I have on AP> hand and abide your echo rules when I am here. Thanks. We all hope you come back soon and as often as you can. I have posted no rules and don't intend to because everyone here exibits adult behavior.
