To a lot of us starting out, it was the same way.  It definitely happened to me.

I'd probably do the same thing you did, but I see that message in echoes
every day and that includes today.  Sometimes one of the guys from my old
net would notice no postings in an echo and would write the following:

"Gee, it's dark in here."

I don't blame you.  I look at every list from Thom and also from my uplink
to see what is still active on the Backbone.  I don't scrutinize Thom's
list because if an echo is on the Backbone, I automatically assume (yes, I
know) it has a moderator.

If I was correct as to who it was updating the echo, then Thom couldn't contact him.

I live in a house with two adult cats, one kitten, and three dogs.  One of
the dogs was given to me by my best friend recently.  It is a Yorkshire
Terrier and of the other two, they are a Mini-Doberman and a
Chihuahua/Dachsund mix.  The "Yorky" and the Doberman are males
and the other is female -- just the opposite of the sexes of the three cats
in the house.  The Doberman is a trip.  He's nothing like the
once-in-a-lifetime German shepherd I had for almost 15 years, but kind of
fun, nevertheless.
