Lynn in Florida had an experience similar to last week's reprinted story from a
September 12, 2002 Newsletter:
The story from the reader who found a childhood picture of herself taken by her
grandparents displayed in an antique shop reminded me of a similar incident. I
was browsing in a local antiques mall and came across a stack of vintage
visitorsCÇÖ guides printed by my hometown chamber of commerce. Looking through
the booklets, which were from the 1960s and '70s, I came face-to-face with my
16-year-old self, clad in bathing suit and bare feet, smiling shyly from the
back of a boat. The photo had been taken by a local photographer during a
publicity shoot for a new waterfront development, and appeared on the cover of
the annual visitors' guide a year or two later. My mother had kept a copy of
the guide when it came out, but it was lost in a fire many years ago. I was
delighted to see it and, needless to say, gladly paid the $2 asking price!
