Maybe he is just a realist. The election system is already rigged to produce
better outcomes for the Republicans and the incumbent president is still
losing. They rarely win the popular vote and the senate does not represent the
majority (of voters).

Too bad that sane Republican candidates don't win elections anymore, only the
polarizing extremists which are just incompetent politicians. In 4 years a
candidate that still is a climate change denier will have a very slim chance to
get elected. It's catch-22. If the candidate is a right-wing populist, swing
voters vote for the democrat. If s/he is sane and moderate, it's not polarizing
enough that enough of the crazy people cast their vote.

But maybe the voters will change the party over the years by not electing the
annoying and intimidating white men anymore who run the GOP nowadays. Only time
will tell.
