| subject: | Two Trains . 1.01 |
The very high prices are a gold mine for the Railroads. Trains are the MOST effecent use of Fuel You can move a Ton of cargo one mile by rail using less fuel than by any other method. Lang haul shippers feeling the crunch of higher fuel costs are shifting their loads to the Railroads where ever posable. Of course using the Good Old Amercian Way the Railroads are raping the customers on "Fuel Cost Surcharges" collecting far more than the acualt increased costs of Diesel. There are several Lawsuits in litigation right now over Unfair Practices. BA> RN> How far will it go on 10 gallons of fuel? BA>If you believe CSX commercials, one gallon of diesel will move a ton of frei BA>423 miles on their railroad. BA>OTOH, Union Pacific's articulated steam locomotive gets about 10 gallons per BA>mile on bunker oil (5,000 gallons to go from Cheyenne, WY, to Omaha, NE) - a BA>that's without much of a load. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ 0* Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/201 14/300 34/999 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 222/2 SEEN-BY: 226/0 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 SEEN-BY: 2905/0 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
