Actually, it is possible to get ready when the boat's still moving. Get the
captain to tip you off when you're about 15 or 20 minutes out from the site
and start assembling your gear (mount reg on tank....test reg, etc). If you
need a wetsuit to dive, then this would be a good time to put it on. As you
have already noted, most of the motion comes as the boat starts the final
approach to the dive site. If you have 3/4 of the donning ritual done
already, it should be easy enough to just slide the tank on, put your mask on
your face, and go. I've practiced this for 20 years and I am usually the
first in the water every time.....and I don't even have a problem with motion
sickness.
