CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS
The major controls and displays in WinRadio include:
Receiver Frequency display - consists of the digital frequency display
and an analog scale below. To set the frequency, simply type a number in
or, using the mouse, click on the display and edit the number. The value
shown in the frequency display is affected by the frequency display offset
set in the General options dialog box (selected from the Configure menu).
This offset is added to the actual receiver frequency and shown in the
display. The frequency offset can be used if you use a down-converter for
very high frequencies (such as satellite transmissions) not normally
covered by WinRadio.
Just below the frequency display is an analog frequency scale. The tuned
frequency is shown like on a classic communications receiver. You can zoom
in or out on a frequency using the left or right arrows, located to the
right of the scale. Next to the frequency display are the stepping
buttons.
Fine Tune control - Click on the knob with either the left or right
mouse buttons to adjust the tuned frequency in the smallest practical
increments. In all modes except FM-W, the increment is 1kHz, while in FM-W
it is 10kHz.To use it from the keyboard, use the Up and Down cursor keys.
To speed up the tuning, hold down the Shift key for a 10x speed up, or the
Ctrl key for a 100x speed up. This works with both keyboard and mouse.
Stepping display - varies according to the stepping method selected.
There are three possible methods: fixed step, auto-step and memory step.
To change the stepping method, use the Select button. When Fixed Step is
selected, the display shows the step size in kHz. To change the step size,
you can either click on the display with the mouse and edit the step size,
or press the F key and enter a new step size.
When Auto-Step is selected, the display shows the current step size
according to the auto-step configuration. If you are tuned within a
defined auto-step range, you wont be able to change the step size by
clicking on the display. You will still be able to edit the number, but
this will only change the fixed step size - after you press Enter, the
display will revert to the original defined step size.
When Memory Step is selected, the display shows the callsign for the
current memory frequency that the receiver is tuned to. In this mode, the
display cannot be edited. If the receiver isn't tuned to a memory
frequency, the display is blank (and so is the memory display). To change
the frequency using the step size, use the Page Up/Down buttons.
Memory display - The memory display shows the memory number that the
receiver is tuned to. If the receiver isn't tuned to a memory frequency,
the display is blank.
The display can be used to recall a frequency. Simply click on the
display or press Ctrl+M, and type the memory number to want to recall. If
the memory entry contains a setting, the settings will be recalled,
otherwise nothing happens and the display is blanked.
When you are using memory stepping, the call-sign of the memory entry is
shown in the stepping display.
