Hi, Karolina,
RA> I suspect they are afraid that if they show their interest, they'll be

KS>
KS> Speaking for myself (and I always do), I'm afraid of foot in mouth
KS> disease. :/ What I really, really wannabe, is a decent human being.
Being a decent human being is the most important thing any of us can be.
All else flows from that.
RA> The d.c. is 'great' at labelling people based on
RA> superficial appearances and quick judgments, and this is probably the
RA> only experience they have of how things are done.
KS>
KS> errr.... d.c.?
Dominant culture. It is a little more precise than saying white culture,
since not all white people agree with or participate fully in the
dominant culture.
SB> Hey, I'm interested in folk tales from all over
SB> the entire world, but I really am OK not being a descendent of a
SB> Spanish princess.
KS>
KS> And I'm happy with how and who I am. I'm not a fanatic for searching
KS> the family tree and whether I descend from kings or criminals doesn't
KS> change the *me* of me.
Actually, I am interested in genealogy. Since I'm a genuine mutt, there
have been a lot of different cultures and peoples who have contributed to
what I am. I find it interesting trying to sort out what came from
where, such as looking at a picture of one of my great-grandfathers and
seeing that we both had the same shape of hands and held them the same
way or noting that my mother, a cousin several times removed, and I all
share the Farnsworth knees. In neither case would either knowing or not
knowing where these physical traits came from change the fact that I have
them, but it still is interesting knowing where they came from.
Interestingly enough, I have discovered that four or five close friends
of mine are actually relatives. Several I had known for close to thirty
years before learning this.
Take care,
Robin
