White Sox Seek First Title Since 1917 (AP)
AP - The Chicago White Sox come into the playoffs looking for their
first World Series title in 88 years. The Yankees haven't won it all
since 2000 -- and that's way too long as far as they're concerned.
Panthers Defeat Packers 32-29 (AP)
AP - Brett Favre showed he still has some Monday night magic -- just not
enough to prevent the Green Bay Packers from getting off to their worst
start in 17 years. Favre threw four touchdown passes but couldn't
overcome two early turnovers that the Carolina Panthers used to build a
big lead and then held on for a 32-29 victory.
Dodgers 'Part Ways' With Manager Jim Tracy (AP)

DePodesta's restructuring of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tigers Fire Manager Alan Trammell (AP)
AP - Alan Trammell is out and Jim Leyland might be in as manager of the
Detroit Tigers. Trammell was fired Monday after three seasons in which
he failed to turn around a franchise without a winning record since

Monday.
Shaq Hoping Added Strength Will Help Heat (AP)
AP - Shaquille O'Neal ranked among the NBA leaders in scoring and
rebounding a year ago, helped carry the Miami Heat within one game of
the finals and was a narrow runner-up to Steve Nash in the MVP voting.
Impressive? Not in O'Neal's estimation.
More than ever, relievers hold key in postseason (USATODAY.com)
USATODAY.com - Baseball's most decisive work shift in October doesn't
crank up until about midnight on the East Coast. That's when starting
pitchers are icing their arms and relief pitchers are making their
inning-by-inning trek to the mound. And if the last decade has proven
anything, World Series titles are won and lost on this swing shift.
U.S. Regulars to Sit Out Costa Rica Game (AP)
AP - With a World Cup berth clinched, U.S. coach Bruce Arena bypassed
many of his top players for Saturday's qualifier at Costa Rica.
Avalanche Test Winning Formula in New NHL (AP)
AP - Partly out of necessity and partly out of choice, the Colorado
Avalanche made big changes to the formula that made them a winner on
the ice and with their fans during their first decade in Denver.
Petrino: Cardinals Need to Relax (AP)
AP - The Louisville Cardinals expected an angry tirade from coach Bobby
Petrino at halftime of their 61-10 win over Florida Atlantic.
Hantuchova Advances at Porsche GP (AP)

Porsche Grand Prix, where Kim Clijsters is in position to regain the
No. 1 ranking.
S. Korean Hee-Won Han Wins Office Depot (AP)
AP - After a good night's sleep, South Korea's Hee-Won Han hit the golf
course feeling recharged and aggressive. She opened with two
consecutive birdies Monday en route to a 3-under 68 and a wire-to-wire,
two-stroke victory in the 54-hole Office Depot Championship.
