Well, it's not so much a part of American life as it may sound from the
¨outside.  To be 'politically correct' just means to be polite mostly.

An example would be to call a person who is a Cherokee Indian, a 'Native
¨American' as that is the term they prefer.  To be unpolitically correct
would ¨be to call them a 'red man' which is considered a bit rude.
