Well let me tell you when I was growing up my disabled grandfather, diabetic and blind moved in with us and I used to read his quarterly reports to him and enjoyed that. I also used to play cribbage with him and _that's_ when I was wearing my "Captain America Costume", as if there's any game in the world I dislike more I've not yet found it. Grampa Joe however positively lit up when I played with him so I made a go of it, that and following the stock market were the only thing keeping him going after his wife died of cancer. You should have seen the size of those cards and cribbage board, such things are available to the legally blind as were "talking books", on 16 1/3 speed LPS back then. I liked Joe a great deal and he liked me as well though I was just a kid. Joe also suffered terribly at the hands of my father who like you enjoyed being nasty to the disabled and this despite the fact he inherited some 600 - 700 thousand dollars in real estate and stocks from Joe when he passed. I was 12 or 13 when Joe died from peretonitus. BTW my sentance above was a bit unclear, the friends I charged 20 percent of value for electronics repair but for the disabled were it electrical, electronic or plumbing I charged only my costs of materials and thus was out of pocket for my time and gas. Now don't get me wrong I wasn't out and about helping the disabled every day just as something came up making me aware of a person in need. I belonged to no group or organization for helping the disabled. This was done after work at my regular job. I've done precisely one such job since I became disabled and that was running an extention phone line into the bedroom of a man who lost both legs to diabetes and that was back in 1996, I charged him 8 dollars the cost of a new jack and the wire at Home Depot. Now pardon me I've something more pressing to do, I have to edit my Linux Slackware 3.5 in /dev/hda2 /etc/fstab file to mount the /dev/hda3 swap file it shares with Slackware 8.1 residing in /dev/hda4 Shutdown -r now - with extreme prejudice. PS may the fdisk -d /dev/hda1 be with you because you fsuck. --- MultiMail/PBellDOS v0.42* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:275/311) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 275/311 10/345 379/1 633/267 |
