It's quite simple, John.  

If you weren't happy with how your current church does things, would you just
change to the first church that comes around?  

Of course not.  You would check out the pastor, who is often the reason for
a basic change.  Should it be over theological differences, you'd take the
time to learn if the new church/sect was more in line with your own world
views.  That would be especially true if you are jumping from xianity to some
completely different belief system, such as Mormonism.  

Or, did I just error in overestimating your acumen?
