AFAIK the objections of non-believers have to do with continued attempts
by believers to have their beliefs written into law and/or advertise their
beliefs on public property.  Most of the believers I refer to seem to be
fundamentalist Christians.

Non believers are not objecting to the beliefs of believers.  Anybody can
believe whatever they want, foisting those beliefs on others is a different
can of worms.

There's a reason that government *must* be neutral WRT religious beliefs.

Ignoring religion is not at all the same thing as disparaging it or trying to
eliminate it.  Preventing believers from using public property to advertise
their beliefs (and proselytize) is not persecution, no matter how much they
scream that it is.
