Hello Ahmad......
AK>The majority of my boat dives are early morning. Before the trip I take
AK>one Cheese sandwich and a glass of orange juice. Is that appropriate ?
Well, appropriate is kinda what works for you.....everyone is a bit
different in what they can eat and do..... for me that would be kinda
small, I tend to eat a much bigger breakfast than that....but I'm 6'1"
210lbs, you may not be that big and not need as much.
What do you eat for breakfast any other day? I would say that orange
juice is high in acids that may help upset your stomach.
CG>>2) Super Hydrate......this means drink alot of water.....ALOT, not just
CG>>a glass or so before you get on the boat......but quarts, early before
CG>>the boating day begins, then continue thru-out the day.....
AK>That is a good one. I will try it.
Yeah, I'm a big believer in this one.....diving by its self is very
dehydrating anyway, breathing the dry air and especially if your
wearing a heavy wetsuit and your suiting up in high temps.
AK>Paul told me to stay to the front of the boat as it is better ventelated
AK>there and I would be further away from the boat exhaust. Please,
AK>elaborate on this issue.
Well, that has merit as well. Exhaust fumes do a lot to help a upset
stomach along, and a lot of fresh air does help to prevent one. The
rear of the boat however, is generally subjected to less pitching and
rolling due to the weight and location of the engines and the design of
most boats, put the center of gravity towards the rear. If your
problems seem to be while suiting up and not enroute, then you may want
to just be sure to move away from the rear for a few minutes and give
the fumes a bit of time to dissipate.
CG>>4) Try to focas on the shore line, if it is within viewing range. This
AK>I do that during the trip. But, my problem is not during the trip. My
AK>problem is when the boat stops at the dive sight.
Ok, if its while you are getting suited......try this....relax, don't
be in a rush to suit.....put on a item, stop focus on the shore then do
another item, stop focus, and so on.......if your bending over to put
on your booties, that motion coupled with the motion of the boat can do
a lot to set the fluids in your inner ear in a frenzy that can cause
the sickness.......look up and focus, give your eyes time to tell your
brain that your not really spinning in circles.
Good diving my friend......hope these help and you can avoid having to
see the doctor.......but if you have to, be sure to see one that is
familier with diving and its effects so that he or she can prescribe a
medication that is most suitable.
Regards,
Craig
