They're on the other side of town, so I didn't do it (though I asked our
local Wal-mart with the idea of getting some people within the chain to
question the issue). But our main issue was the parking lots - if a woman
stopped at the store at night and had to walk back to her car ... We also
stressed the liability issue (if some nutcase did come in shooting and we
couldn't defend ourselves because of their sign, or if someone broke into
the car and stole a gun which wouldn't be there except for their sign,
then they are liable) and that they were effectively telling crooks "Our
customers can't defend themselves." After talking to their lawyer, they
decided we were right.

Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Prior to the concealed handgun
license law, there was (and still is) an "enhanced penalties" law if you
carry a gun illegally where alcohol is sold. But as an enhanced penalty,
it only applies if the gun is illegal for you to carry (just as the "gun
free school zone law is an enhanced penalty).

See my next message - Paul also asked about it, and I'll just put it all
in one place.

In the rest of the world, open carry is not usually an option. But if
that state has concealed carry, people who don't own guns or aren't
licensed might want to make crooks think they have one ...
I made a similar point earlier with the NRA hats for Florida tourists
remark. The objective is the same. What in nature would qualify as a
protective coloration - something which makes a harmless animal appear to
be a more dangerous one. :-)
Steve
... Shooting someone with a minor caliber is disrespectful.
