| subject: | Re: D-Link wireless router (Glenn Meadows et. al.) |
From: "Glenn Meadows"
As a WAP, I'm using the D-Link DWL-2100 AP. IT can work as a straight
Access Point, connecting to the local lan with it's Ethernet connection, or
it can operate in AP to AP mode, where it's relaying to another AP that
actually makes the connection to the lan.
Modes listed on the management page:
Access Point
PtP Bridge
PtMP Bridge
AP Repeater
AP Client
All allow entry of the remote AP MAC addresses.
You can configure the AP to get it's IP from DHCP, or you can manually
enter it. I've manually entered it, and disabled the DHCP on the box, as
our DHCP server provides that info.
So far, very flexible and seems to be very solid.
The box has DHCP built in if you want, WEP, WAP, MAC address access lists, etc.
It supports both G and B, and can operate in G+ (turbo mode) providing
108mb/s speeds.
You can set the transmit power on the box through the web admin interface.
The box I have at home is a full Cable/DSL Router, which has WAN port, as
well as 4 wired 100mb ports, and the wireless port. Mine at home has also
been rock solid as well.
