LV> I have two computers I have been trying to connect via a BNC cable.
LV> Machine one is a NT/w machine with a Kingston KNE-40BT 32 bit combo card
LV> Machine 2, is a W95 machine with a 3Com 3c900-combo card and both are
LV> connected with a bnc cable and the terminals are on the ends.
LV> Each card see's itself but not the other, and yes I have set the access
LV> for sharing, and tried setting both Netbeui and tcp/ip to each card,
LV> but they only see themselves.
cheap alternative #1
toss the BNC cable/T's/resistors. Go by a twisted pair crossover cable.
($5-$10) See if the machines see each other now.
cheap alternative #2
find somebody who knows microsoft networking that will work for pizza/a six
pack and have them look over your machines/setup for config problems or
memory/irq conflicts with the cards. I've had cards that 'appeared' to work,
but actually didn't.
LV> Does anyone know of a good helpfile to do a two sys lan this way, as I
LV> have been trying for a long time, and the resources kit just dosn't seem
LV> to get me their.
Probably overkill, but, go down to your library and borrow (or have them
interlibrary loan) (1) Inside WindowsNT Server by Drew Heywood c. 1995 New
Riders press LCCN 95-23986 ISBN 1-56205-472-4, or (2) Mastering Windows NT
Server 4 third edition by Mark Minasi (and others) c. 1995 Sybex Press
LCCN 96-69286 ISBN 0-7821-1920-4
Both go into _excruciating_ detail on how to get NT server and Win95 client
talking to each other with NetBeui, or IPX, or TCP/IP, or some or all of the
above.
LV> Or would like an opinion on using the Lantastic 7 for this, I used to
LV> use Lantasti6 with dos, and it worked well other, than the memory
LV> requirements.
I don't think LT7 for NT is 'there' yet; I certainly wouldn't spend the money
it would cost until you're 100%positivecertainsure it isn't simply a hardware
problem with coax or cards.
