"Mike Williams" made an utterence to
the drakelist gang

Hi Bill,
I use a 4 BTV and the feedpoint setup is identical. I use a marine sealant,
also called liquid tape, to seal the point where the coax braid and center
conductor are separated. This seals the break of the conductors and
prevents water migration into the cable in case you get some horizontal
rain. After I tighten up the lugs, (which are crimped and soldered) to
the antenna screws, I coat the connections with Penetrox, which I also use
on all of the tubing and trap sections and the clamps as well. I reside
close to the salt water and just the light spray seems to stay at bay with
the methods mentioned. If you use the Penetrox, be careful not to get the
stuff all over the plastic base insulators since it is a conductor
enhancement compound. You can use a rag to wipe off the Penetrox for future
maintenance, etc. I recoat the connections every 6 or 7 months or after
every hurricane!
Good DX,
Mike W4DL
