Angels Beat Yanks 5-3, Tie ALDS at 1-1 (AP)

AP - Orlando Cabrera, Bengie Molina and the Angels' slick gloves got Los
Angeles even against the New York Yankees. Cabrera scored the tying run
after a costly error by Alex Rodriguez and hit a go-ahead single,
Molina got two big hits and Los Angeles beat the Yankees 5-3 Wednesday
night to tie their AL division series at one game apiece.

Yanks' Errors, Lack of Hitting Costs Them (AP)

AP - Alex Rodriguez may have been the most shocked person in the park.
The Yankees' third baseman looked in his glove, and it was empty. The
Gold Glove winner's sixth-inning error on a lazy chopper led to the
Angels' tying run, and Los Angeles rallied for a 5-3 victory Wednesday
night to even the AL division series at one game apiece.

Astros Batter Braves 10-5 in NLDS Opener (AP)

AP - The Atlanta Braves are in a familiar position: trailing a playoff
series and staring at another October disappointment. For the fourth
year in a row, the Braves started the postseason with a Game 1 loss at
home, this time falling to Morgan Ensberg and the Houston Astros 10-5
 on Wednesday.

ChiSox Put Boston on Hot Seat With 5-4 Win (AP)

AP - The Red Sox are reeling. The defending World Series champions need
another big comeback -- this time just to get out of the first round of
this year's playoffs. The White Sox are rolling. They'll reach the AL
championship series with one more victory, thanks to a pair of
homer-filled wins at U.S. Cellular Field.

Crosby and Gretzky Lose in Debuts (AP)

AP - Hockey was back in full force Wednesday night as all 30 NHL teams
were in action from coast to coast. Wayne Gretzky lost, and so did
Sidney Crosby. It's way too early to tell what side of the ledger the
NHL will fall on in its return following a season lost to the lockout.

Titans' Goal Is to Run the Ball More (AP)

AP - If it seems as if the Tennessee Titans just don't run the way they
used to, it's because they haven't. The Titans have rushed 95 times in
235 offensive plays through the first four games. That's the lowest
percentage of total plays since 1999, when they ran only 99 plays out
of 243 in their first four and reached its only Super Bowl.

Louis Williams Wants Allen Iverson's Spot (AP)

AP - Louis Williams wears a headband like Allen Iverson. He's starting
to tattoo his arms like Iverson. And Williams seems to care little
about the opinions other have of him, just like -- sound familiar? --
Iverson. So it's really no surprise that Williams has his goals set
pretty high, especially for an 18-year-old second-round draft pick: He
 wants Iverson's job.

White Sox Take 2-0 Lead in Red Sox Series (AP)

AP - The Chicago White Sox came back from four runs down to post a 5-4
win over the World Champion Boston Red Sox last night, and take a
commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-five American League Division
 Series.

Chivas USA, Rapids Tie After Borchers Slip (AP)

AP - Colorado's Nat Borchers accidentally deflected the ball into his
own goal to give Chivas USA a 1-1 tie with Rapids on Wednesday night.

Wayne Gretzky Loses in Coaching Debut (AP)

AP - Wayne Gretzky got his first regular-season game -- and first loss
-- as an NHL coach out of the way. The Great One thinks his Phoenix
Coyotes will provide him plenty of opportunities to celebrate
 victories.

Coley Twins Are Big Hit at Southern Miss. (AP)

AP - Quarterbacks aren't necessarily seeing double. There really are two
Coleys making most of Southern Mississippi's big hits on defense.

Puerta Advances at Japan Open (AP)

AP - Top-seeded Mariano Puerta defeated U.S. qualifier Eric Taino 6-3,
6-4 in the second round of the Japan Open on Wednesday when rain led to
postponements and a backlog of matches.

Sponsors Banking on Wie's Global Appeal (AP)

AP - The amateur records of Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie are nothing
alike. Woods whipped up on boys his age, finishing his career without
pay by becoming the first male to win three straight U.S. Amateur
titles. Wie sought out the best competition, which took her to
professional tournaments from the time she was 12. She never won, but
her feats are no less amazing. The one thing they do have in common is
 their tremendous marketability.
