For example, say you configured two auto-step ranges, one for AM
broadcast from 530 kHz to 1620 kHz with a step size of 10 kHz and the AM
mode and the other range for the FM broadcast band from 88 MHz to 108 MHz
with a 100 kHz step size, setting the FM-W mode.
If you are tuned to 144 MHz (2m ham band) in FM-N, the step size will
remain the same as set for fixed stepping. If you now type in 1500k, you
will see the step size automatically change to 10 kHz, and the mode will
reset to AM. If you step outside the range, the step size will be set for
the new range you entered. If no range is specified for the new frequency,
WinRadio i will default to the fixed step size.
You can also configure auto-stepping to skip frequency ranges that are
not specified. If, using the example setup, and step above 1600 kHz in the
AM broadcast section, WinRadio will automatically jump to 88 MHz setting
FM-W and a 100 kHz step size.
Note: If you are at the lowest or highest range specified, and tuned to
the lowest or highest frequency in that range respectively, you cannot step
lower or higher if you have the "skip specified ranges" option set. If you
manually type a frequency in a non-specified range, WinRadio will try to
step to a specified range. If no range is specified in the direction you
are stepping, the frequency will not change.
Next, we have the Memory Recall panel - much like a database viewer.
Only a few frequencies are shown here, but 1000 per memory files are
possible.
The memory recall dialog box allows you to recall a frequency from a
list of all available frequencies, search for a frequency, edit and delete
frequencies.
There are a number of ways to recall a frequency into the display:
+ Use the memory recall/view dialog box
+ Type a number in the memory number display
+ Type a number while holding the control key
+ Use a hot-key
+ Memory stepping
+ Use the 300,000 frequency WinRadio Database
To recall a frequency from memory, either click the R button or press the
R key on the keyboard. A dialog box will pop up, showing all stored
frequencies, including mode, call-sign and comment.
To type a number directly in the memory number display, either click in
it with the mouse button, or press Ctrl+M. Type a number between 0 and 999,
and press . If a frequency exists at that number, it will be
recalled. After a little practice, you get real good at this!
The quickest way to recall any frequency is to type the memory number in
directly, while holding down the Control key. For example, you want to
recall memory number 367, just hold the control key down, type 367, then
release the control key. (CTRL+367)
