Yup. Actually, the trains are not usually that long--I
believe some coal trains now are around 150 cars or so, probably
a mile and a half or more--but it is necessary to have room for
clearance and desirable to have the sidings long enough that the
train moving through the siding will not have to come to a complete
stop.
